Rap Maven LVT Makes a Statement in “Who Am I”

A suspenseful introduction leads the way in “Who Am I,” the newest album by LVT. This is a 7-song compilation and select songs have feature guests Mansa Kamau and Tongasiyus. Twenty seconds into the first song, “Letter to My Father,” LVT brings out her articulate, rhythmic chanting rapping skills. This first track is a good balance of musical accompaniment along with LVT’s rap, neither overtaking the other. This collection dropped in November 17th, chosen with great care as the date is the birthday of the singer’s grandfather, who has passed away. Available on the Spotify, Apple, Deezer, and Tidal streaming platforms, “Who Am I” was produced by Abeo Music, who is run by Bhavik Solanki, a dub/house producer, recording engineer, and radio presenter.

“Pray For Me,” with guest Mansa Kamau, could be a song that easily fits in in a movies reminiscent of The Fast & The Furious or xXx. “Wishing” takes a different feel from both the first two tracks, placing the music further in the background to really emphasize LVT’s vocals. Next, “Why Did You Let Him (Wdylh)” clearly shows how strong LVT’s voice can be. She sings assertively and portrays a very strong character who fought through years of waiting for someone. “Sh.E.O” sounds akin to an empowered woman and makes for a great dance song. The sixth track, “Talkin’ My Shit,” brings out another Leicester rapper’s talents – Tongasiyus. He weaves his softer rap in alternating verses with LVT in this song. Last, “Karma” is one of the stronger tracks of the album, opening with a mesmerizing drum section. This track has a strong, defined verse, chorus, and bridge.

LVT’s rap style is crisp, literate, and incisive. Where some artists use the same beat across songs and use variation through lyrics to differentiate, LVT keeps each song fresh and new, despite managing to make it a cohesive whole within an album. She was drawn to rap as it was a new exploratory frontier for her musical understanding. Her explosive style of hip hop, rap, and R&B is diverse and authentic. With music as a passion from a young age, LVT first sang in a church choir, due to her grandfather being a bishop. The performer was inspired by Lil Wayne, Rihanna, Cardi B, and Adele. Because of this, LVT decided to join talent shows in secondary school and college, later transitioning to learn DJ skills. She started off her music career by performing original songs at live events and open mic nights around Leciester.

In 2019, LVT released a short debut single, “Graduated,” which was played at her own graduation. This track hit over 15,000 streams on Spotify. Currently, the artist boasts over 10,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. Between 2019 and 2020, LVT has fallen into a creative collaborative team with Tongasiyus. Together, they released “Closer” in August of 2019 and “F.E.A.R” in the beginning of 2020. LVT is represented by GIA (Global Influencer Agency), a global, private agency representing influencers, runway, and brands. With high aspirations, she one day hopes to perform in big stadiums around the world and to hit one million streams in 2021.
