Hip hop and rap performer Jamaar Anthony, also known as Anthony Jamaar Sayles, began his journey in music when he was about four. His father brought home a keyboard and the rest is history. At age 11, he knew without a doubt that music was going to be his life. Jamaar is a musical composer and songwriter as well. He asserts that the greatest challenge he experiences is being heard and noticed, requiring more hard work and groundwork. In an interview with Skilly Magazine Online, Jamaar recounts the music scene in his hometown of Las Vegas as unsupportive due to the incredible competitiveness which offsets the opportunities to work with industry folks.
Passion and creativeness are the keys to creating a great song, Jamaar contends. He personally likes to roll a blunt in his car before making a song. Having only launched his debut song in 2017, Jamaar is furiously churning out new songs this year. He released 3 singles and 3 very comprehensive albums. His most recent single is “If I Die Tonight (2pac Tribute),” which does not use the same lyrics as the original, but is Jamaar’s own personal take on it, adding specific Vegas references.
The three albums that grace 2020 are “Ift,” “I Am Jamaar,” and “King Jamaar.” The former holds 21 songs, a full hour of rap and hip hop tunes. This collection highlights his rap style as briskly confident and authoritative, dexterous with the poetry in words. His lyrical content is substantial and story-like, creating intricate visual imagery of the life he is trying to describe, such as in “I’m Feeling Trapped” and “The Dark (Before Dawn).” One of the highlights of this album is 13th track “All Natural (Stay True),” a collaboration with DT 702 and Natrell Dotcom. The next album, “I Am Jamaar,” holds 17 songs and collaborations with artists Leci Marie, Chosin, Helecia Marie Sayles, Chav Daniels, Cadence, and De’andre Jerome. The third, “King Jamaar,” offers listeners 23 songs with an hour and 30 minutes of hip hop and rap goodness. Of this album, the nostalgic track “4 Minutes (Bonus)” is amongst the top 10 most played on Jamaar’s Spotify offerings. Jamaar’s delivery is crisp, distinct, and urbane.
The songwriter’s 2019 “The Return of the 90s” album is, by far, the most popular amongst his fans. Out of the 20 songs in the compilation, 9 of them make his top 10 popular song list. “LV Outkast” tops that list with an impressive 1.6 million listens. The track sounds autobiographical as he raps, “I smoke too, I ain’t tryna sit round and judge n*gg*s, just be productive you wasting life just because. Let me guess wait, you think positive rap is borin’, you rather hear about n*gg*s pimpin’ and whippin’ foreigns.” Even more decisively, he ends the song with “And n*gg*, I been fucked over like over a million times. The city got a n*gg* more bitter than lemon lime but still I stay in tip top shape. I’m feeling fine, I’ll see you mothafuckas at the finish line.”
On Spotify, the entertainer is close to 40,000 followers, who are happy with the frequency at which the performer is releasing songs, even during the worldwide pandemic.
