Learning only 3 chords from her first guitar, LISE began to write her own original songs, wanting to be a famous songwriter. LISE trends towards topics about faith, life, and love. Most of the inspiration for her songs and creations can be credited to personal experiences and life lessons she observes from close friends. The Mississauga-born Canadian singer also goes by Juliesa LISE. The 2020 COVID-19 pandemic has not slowed down the independent artist, with frequent posts on her social media and even recently signing up for TikTok.
The Canadian singer/songwriter wrapped up her 2020 with 468 total streams on Spotify from 124 listeners in 29 countries, shared on her Instagram account. Fairly new to the music scene, LISE has 61 monthly listeners on Spotify, 258 YouTube subscribers, and 22 followers on SoundCloud. In 2020, LISE released three singles. “Escape” is her latest release, produced by Mike Dwayne, on November 29th. The single begins with LISE’s incredibly sweet voice, bordering on angelic, singing “Get your passport and pack your bags. We need to escape this world and the bliss it lacks. Don’t forget your shades and your camera too. Can’t wait to get out of here and capture moments with you.” The track is nearly 4 minutes long and is her 2nd most popular song on Spotify. Lyrics such as “Take me on a plane on a baecation. Need to get away, make the reservation” show her creativity with words and rhymes. The song is a hopeful one of an end to the worldwide effects of the coronavirus this year. The Brampton, Ontario resident takes songwriting inspiration from John Mayer, India Arie, and Corinne Bailey Rae.
Other tracks dropped this year are “Open Your Heart” and “I Can’t Get You out of My Mind.” The former is a slower tune and LISE occasionally sings with a drawl. The latter is also a slower, meandering tune. “I Can’t Get You out of My Mind” focuses less on the music and more about the singer’s story, highlighting LISE’s saccharine vocals.
Other than the three tracks in 2020, LISE last released a song in 2018. This was her debut single, “If I Was a Bird.” Her clear articulation and guitar-playing make the song gorgeously hopeful in mood and becomes a relatable anthem for listeners. Her inventive lyrics include gems like, “If I was a bird, I would fly away from here, flying high up to the sky, leave all my problems behind” and “I would go, I would go, I would go, far away. Just like a baby bird, I would spread my wings.”
Other than her original songs, LISE loves to post videos of her singing covers to well-known songs. Lately, she is celebrating the holiday season with a cover of “The Christmas Song.” However, her most viewed covers are Drake’s “Get It Together” with an impressive 21,000 views, Tori Kelly’s “Hollow,” and Beyonce’s “Daddy Lessons.”
