Free-spirited with a hint of melancholy and graced with an angelic voice, the “Every Time I See the Ocean” nightingale, Cassie Marin has received great recognition. With a sound reminiscent of artists such as Lykke Li and Kate Havnevik, the Los Angeles based singer steals her way into numerous hearts with her delicate sounding vocals and sensitive lyrics.
A self-proclaimed daydreamer, Cassie writes and sings songs designed to put fans in a dream-like state of mind, leading them to explore the depths of their own inner being. An advocate of self-evolution, Cassie has maintained her velvety smooth vocals balanced with a fusion of electro pop tunes and continues to evolve her sound.
A talented pianist, guitarist and vocalist, Cassie started off rendering song covers on social media. She released her debut album, “Plastique Days” in February 2017 which comprised of songs like “How Could I” and “Stuck in a Crush.” The former, an interesting exploration by the singer of auto-tune instrumentals and simplistic beats.
She further released her single, “Light” in June, 2017 and in 2018, dropped her six-track EP, “S.O.S”- each song is enveloped by a lullaby-like melody, putting listeners in a relaxing mood. Also in 2018, the budding songstress authored her first book titled, “Spilling.” The book showcases Cassie being her truest and most vulnerable self through poetry. She went on to release a handful of other singles including “Guilty,” and “Disrespect.” Cassie’s songs highlight themes of forgiveness, healing, acceptance and moving forward no matter what. These themes are also significantly explored in her 2020 release, “Juice.”
While she has been featured by Arts, Music and Culture publication, Nakid Magazine and has modelled for brands such as H&M, Cassie’s main focus remains centred on music. In 2019, she released pop single, “Nope,” and a month later she dropped “Playground.” In the same year, she also released sophomore EP, “Love Me Well” which birthed the airy and eclectic singles “Take Care of Me, Pt 1 and Pt. 2.” Both songs have been described by the singer as deeply emotional and evocative. The multi-talented singer uses song writing as a tool, opening a window into her soul which she bares freely for all to see. Through her music, she documents her struggles and embarks on a journey of self-acceptance which is all-encompassing and entails mental and psychological growth.
Once plagued with stage fright, the now confident performer graces local bars with live performances. These include Harvard and Stone, Sad Boys Club, Resident DTLA among many others. In 2021, she graced fans with “Busy Body” and “Tanto.” The latter being the only song she has recorded in her native language, Spanish. Following the release of 2022 single, “Every Time I See the Ocean” the singer has teased the release of a sophomore album. With a fan base of over 45,000 followers on Instagram, @cassiemarin continues to reveal layers of her sound that make her even more endearing and refreshing.
